Maddox? Lennon? Pheifer? Dakota? Trayce? I love babies, 'bout to have one myself. But some of these new names are freaking retarded.

The celebrities started this dumb trend. I think people are thinking more about themselves with these names than about their kids. I keep hearing "Madison is such as hip name right now!", "Churchill is such an elegant name", etc etc. What happened to having a name that actually means something rather than being named after face cream (Nivea), elbow positions (Akimbo), and gorillas (CoCo)? I know parents think these names are cool but they're cursing their kids for life. They'll be lawyers and doctors someday and those stupid names are going to be SOOOO embarrassing!

actual sure it is totally cheesy, (ok very cheesy) yet super in case you desire your newborn has a destiny as a butler, stripper, or automobile coverage salesman. Or while you're in basic terms hoping to WOW your friends by skill of asserting "hi I certainly have a bentley" yet don't be disenchanted whilst they ask to work out pictures and then stop conversing to you because of the fact they think of your some gallons shy of a finished tank. good good fortune on the child making however, it is relaxing and a super thank you to make up after scuffling with over infant names.

I agree with you wholeheartedly! I really wonder how these children will adjust when they become adults and start working in a professional environment. Your name is your name--you will have it from birth to death. It is who defines you as a person! Most "normal" names have a background (Latin, French, etc.) and generally mean something. (Just in case you're interested, my name means "white light.") :)

People say they make up these names so their baby will be "different" and won't be one of 3 or 4 other "Marys" in their classes at school. So they either make up some ridiculous name for the child, or spell it in a way that the poor child will probably have to spell their name for any- and everyone they encounter. Instea of Mary, they spell it Mareye, for example.

What's wrong with having a "common" name?

The names are what the parents of that child likes. You may think their retarded or dumb but, what if someone thought your name you have picked out was dumb? How would that make you feel? You tell them to mind their own business, right? Just trying to make you see from their point of view. I have a wierd name picked out for my son(due in 2 weeks) His name is Tristan. I've gotten comments on it and I don't care.. That's the name that I love for him and if he doesn't like it.. he can go by his middle name.. Sorry.. but, that's MY opinion.. Good luck to you and your family.

I agree with you. I think people are trying to be too clever so their child has some hip name that nobody else has. I don't think they're as bad as some of the made up names that you can't pronounce - even with the spelling. Best wishes on your soon to be bundle of joy.

I love the name Maddox! I think people want their kids to be unique. But wierd names are trendy. I wouldnt name my kid something wierd but maybe Maddox.

I am sure that Mike was once "dumb" too. Just because it isn't a common name to you, doesn't mean that it is not a good name. And if people have nothing better to do than make fun of a child for the name they have, then they are not worth knowing.

I agree..trendy names often just look so "poofy"..
I like the old fashioned names..

And also..parents that funk-ify the spelling..I hate that!

I know a girl named Mela'neigh.
CMON! What's wrong with Melanie?

I'm sure there are some names that are popular now that were once unusual and "dumb" to some people.
