Lansinoh!

Best breast cream ever - hands down. It comes in a purple tube & protects your nipples from cracking and from chaffing. You can use it before feedings, after feedings, when you're feeling sore.....it helped me tremendously.

The hospital will give you some breast cream if you need it. Also, you can find it next to the breast pumps and such in Target, Wal-Mart, or Babys R Us. I was told by the lactation nurse that you can use your own breast milk as an ointment. After you're done breastfeeding, squeeze a little more out and rub it around. Congratulations and good luck!

You don't have to.
Breastmilk itself is antiseptic, so if you find that you have sore nipples, squeeze milk out and rub it into the affected areas.

But there is no reason you should suffer from cracks, since it's poor positioning that causes this. If you find breastfeeding painful AT ALL, you need to reposition your baby, and help him/her get as much of the areola into the mouth as possible. Remember it's called breast feeding, not nipple feeding.

Once again I must say we are all different. I breast feed for nearly three years and never used any creams at all. I was in no pain and didnt have any cracking or pain.....
good luck
