Not at all. Do now worry about what others may think do what is best for you...

Congrats!!!
I'm not sure what is considered as "tacky" . These days it seems that anything goes. I do have a suggestion though, with the baby coming in the next few weeks it would be hard to throw a shower together in that short of a time span. Why not wait until the baby comes and just invite them all over after the baby arrives. That way they choose to bring a gift or not and get to meet the new little one.

Maybe you could call it something else or then a baby shower. I was in a similar predicament where I was new to the area and was working at an Inn that was almost all men for clientele. I did not have enough girl friends for a traditional baby shower so we had a baby BBQ! Then we could invite the friends I had made and it was not so intimidating or typical! Con grates on the new baby!

I find the whole idea of "baby showers" somewhat tacky, but that's just me (I've always been taught that you don't ask for gifts, and a baby shower is just that - asking for gifts). Hosting your own, especially if people you're inviting are not very close, seems *extremely* tacky to me, unless you put "no gifts please" on the invitation - i.e., simply have a nice little party to celebrate the upcoming birth.

Yes -- I was in the situation you were in - moved to a new city when I was 7 months pregnant. So I had no shower, but family and friends gifted my son well after his birth!

well, you do deserve a baby shower and if no one else is going to do it for you, you may as well do it yourself.
this might make you feel better about hosting your own baby shower.... I had the most laziest and useless maid of honour in the world!!! I had to plan my own bridal shower and I had to call everyone to attend the shower and I had no financial help other than my husband. My in laws didn't even bother to help me organize.
Somethings you just have to do on your own

Well I'm not really sure the proper answer but if you have no one to throw you a shower maybe you could work with a couple of close friends. Since you will indeed be inviting someone to the shower.

Sounds fine to me, why would you think that is tacky? I think that some people do not have a lot of people they know in that kind of situation and if someone tells you it is that is there problem.~

I never thought about it, but now that you bring it up I really dont think it would be tacky at all. People host their own birthday parties, engagement parties, retirement parties, etc etc, even their own housewarming parties. Sooooo what better reason to have a party than the up coming birth of your child. I say, why not. Go for it. Just because you dont have anyone to throw it for you doesnt mean that you dont deserve one. Right? Good Luck and congratulations on your miracle!!!!!

Absolutely not. If anything it's probably a fun way to get them all together. Make it a playdate and allow them to bring their munchkins as well. That way they'll have lots of advice to offer not to mention if they do bring gifts you know it's going to be stuff you'll actually need. Just do it and present it in a tasteful manner. Congrats and best wishes!

no, go for it. If someone thinks it's tacky, too bad.
But be careful, to invite people that you don't know. Lots of weirdos out there that like pregnant girls. Sounds weird -because it is.
Have fun with new baby.
Good luck and be cautious, friend.
