I have lived in Arizona for 17 years although I have never been to Florida. The weather can get hot here, but it's manageable since everywhere you go there is some form of A/C. There is crime in certain areas of Phoenix, but not on the outskirts (suburbs). If you really want to have a great place to live here, check out houses in Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, or Scottsdale. You will usually find nice neighborhoods with no crime hopefully. I have lived in Tempe for 13 years and no crime has ever occurred where I live. There's so many things to do here, even if it's just going out to a cool club on Mill Avenue. There is also a huge college population in Downtown Tempe, so there's definitely lots of different people to meet. But in the end, you really have to decide if that's your kind of scene. The desert setting does take some getting used to, but if you're into it and try to have fun, Phoenix is definitely the place for you!

I also suggest AZ. for the climate differences. If I could go anywhere I wished with gainfull employment, It would be a toss up between any of the southwest states. I've been out to phoenix once or twice, and it is one of the preetiest cities I have ever seen at night. (coming over the mountain)
AZ might get warm in the summer, but so does Florida (with humidity)
Land is cheaper out west (outside the big cities)
Plus you can wear a nice cowboy hat in AZ, People will tend to laugh at you if you wear a decent cowboy hat on a regular basis in Florida.
The only thing that I see going for Florida is the night life, and I'm sure that Phoenix has a nice night life also
To Floridas downside is hurricanes.
You might get a tornado out west, but the damage is minimal as compared to a hurricane that batters a city.
The final decision may be what the pay difference is...
If there is no real difference, I would go AZ without hesitation.

I would choose PHX. No chance of hurricanes, no humidity, and no Bugs for one. Plus there is plenty to see and do. Tempe and Scottsdale are fun places to go out. This time of year is great with spring training baseball. The winters are mild. I lived there, and am still kicking myself for leaving.

I guess it pretty much depends on your personality and what you like to do. Me....I would take Florida...in spite of the heat and humidity....and sometime hurricane. Its beautiful....sugar spun sand...clear emerald water...and laid back atmosphere. Lots of fun places to visit and bars to drink in. And lots of tourists ..so you can always meet someone different to talk to.
