I know someone who will watch something on television and then all of a sudden want to be like that person. Is this some sort of identity crisis type stuff going on here or what. I find it ridiculous and utterly asinine. Especially, when it comes to super heros.

I do not mean this in a playful sense. That this other person is just having fun with it and that is that. Back when I was a child I wanted to be all sorts of people but as an adult. No it has never crossed my mind. I'd rather be myself then attempt to portray someone else.
If I ever went and purchased me a super hero costume just so I could walk around the house and pretend to be that person then shoot me. If I ever become so infatuated with a fake persons life that it is all that I talk about or want to be like then slap me. Pretty soon I'm going to really think I can save the world and jump across buildings, stop moving buses and put spells on people. If I was a child then okay but as an adult, come on now.
These added details are for the commentor who suggested I join in.

It is actually a mental illness in many cases...
Anne Sexton the poet suffered from it. I can't remember the name of it though.
She adopted the other illnesses that other patients had and became them to the total loss and detriment of her own personality...
Shoot... I can't remember the technical name for it though? Sympathetic something or other?
There was a movie with Marcia Gay Harding in it where she took on the personalities of old movie characters to deal with the death of a child... Can't remember the name of that either? Ordianry people I think? With Shirley Maclaine...
I must be getting old?

It is not always that something is wrong in imitating or emulating others, especially if they entertain us, or amuse us, or give us a sense of cheer. Haven't you ever wanted, even though you'd know it was a performance, to act as someone else?
Whether that persona was a T.V., Movie, Book character, just for the fun of it?
For the experience of judging yourself how well, you'd do?
I have.
Sometimes I stand in front of a very large mirror in my master room and act scenes from plays or films, or personalize especially favoured characters from the Classics or Biographies.
My aim is amusement and to test myself at other skills than those I have acquired through art.
Sometimes it is only an attempt at a creative reverie, if I am bored or restless.
A performance of my own for my own audience, I!
So what is so asinine, as pretending to be a super hero or heroine once in a while, if one does not lose their sense of identity or reality?
The minute someone attempts to be Superman and flies off their 4th storey balcony, let us say . . or become Spider-Man and begins to climb the Obelisk at La Place de la Concorde, then, there's a problem . . not just asinine, but dangerous as well?
So don't begrudge other people's choice of creativity for whatever harmless reason, rather join in! Believe me, it can be SO much fun! . . Try it . . you JUST might like it!!! Bye

Well, super heroes is quite a stretch for an adult...
I can see wanting to be a character on a soap or prime-time drama. After all, these characters have perfect faces, bodies, teeth, hair, clothes, etc. Many of them are financially stable with an interesting business of their own--or a really great career. Some of them are married to (or having an affair with) a really appealing person.
Yeah, it's nice daydreaming about being one of these characters--but it gets dangerous if the person starts believing they actually have become them.

Sounds like a mental sickness to me, although it doesn't have to be. I mean, who wouldn't want to be able to fly, be nearly immortal, shoot lazers from your eyes, have super mentos breath that can repel a huge explosion, be avle to reverse time and be good looking no matter how homosexual your costume it?
