I would wait if I were you. I had mine done at 21 weeks, and other than finding out what we were having, the whole thing was a waste of money. Although we were able to see her and all her little parts, she wasn't yet big enough to get a complete picture of her. $90 is a lot of money to pay for the sex of the baby. I'd just wait until your doctor gave you another one.

if your 20 weeks shouldnt have had one, I was told that by the 18-22week range you should have one done. It also seems as if you are in Boston.. So am I, and wanted to have this done myself. I would suggest that you wait at the for your ultrasound appointment rather than paying $90 for an elective service, and I researched about the 3d and 4d u/s and read that most of the places that provide that service are really trainned technicians some not at all dont have all the credentials. Hence they are not at doctors offices or have staffed doctors. Make sure you do your research and reading before ever participating in such an elective service.

I am lucky enough to have an ultrasound done every time I go to the doctors, he has one right at the office, and he does 4D scans every time. They are the awesome. I am 34 weeks along and last week I finally got a definite on the sex of the baby. I am having another boy ( my third ). He was very uncooperative in the earlier weeks of pregnancy to see his "package". So at first I was a little disappointed but then the doc got a great view of his face, and I saw all of his features. And that just made any disappointment of having another boy go right away. So my advice to you would be to wait another few weeks and get another scan. Not every baby is cooperative when it comes to seeing the gender. But you will be able to really SEE the baby as he/she is. I reccommend a 4D scan to everyone. Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy.

My doc didn't offer them until you hit 28 weeks. That's because before that the baby has about zero fat and looks very alien-like, which tends to freak out parents more than make them happy about shelling over the big bucks.

At 20 weeks, you're still only halfway there, you can get plenty of stuff for the baby without knowing the sex (crib, playpen, monitor, swing, bouncer, diapers), and if your doc is planning on another ultrasound you'll still have time to get clothes, sheets, and blankets that are pink or blue before the baby comes.

The best time to have them done is between 28-32 weeks with singletons becuz the baby will look like a baby not an alien, it puts on more baby fat after 28 weeks. I cant get one done cuz I am 32 weeks pregnant with twins and they said I should have asked about it before 28 weeks. I guess its because they could have gotten a better picture of them earlier, now when I have my bi-weekly u/s I cant even see their faces :(

I had 3d ones done and I thought that it was really neat. It was so awesome to be able to see what my little looked like. You can see facial features and it was just so awesome. I also got a 30 min DVD of my little one! I was able to show it to family members and they were able to comprehend those ultrasounds and the DVD better than the normal doctor ones.

I paid $150 for mine

I just had mine done, and I loved it. Although she was being very stubborn and wouldn't move her hands away from her face we were able to get really good profile pictures. I payed $150.00 for it, and I would do it again. I am 25 weeks and the pictures turned out good.
