Well, you leave no conclusive argument that he(boyfriend) wants something more, besides money to fix your car. You give no details such as, type of car, condition your car was in before he chose to fix your car, etc. This would help me help you determine a fair dollar amount to compensate your friend. I have been on both sides in similar matters. When I was, that boyfriend that has done such favors I can tell you that if he has expressed that money was not an option, but you feel obligated, call a brake shop and get an estimate on everything your boyfriend did. Deduct the parts you paid, now use this dollar figure to do something with him and make him feel like a "KING". Buy him a nice watch. Take him out somewhere your treat. Something. Good Luck!

depends how long it takes, for the roters and pads he'll be at it for a couple hours and hes saving you 300+ so id give him at least $100,get an estimate from a shop and see exactly how much he is saving you.even if he said he dont want paid,if you dont pay him he may not help you out next time,

well it usually takes about 30 min to change out the brake pads and if he's turning the rotors it takes about an hour(on the machine) mechanics make about 45 an hour
so if its a friend i would pay him about $50 bucks and maybe a dinner

what car make and model is it? go online or call a local auto parts shop and see what is the going rate for the particular parts and services on your car. that'll give you a pretty good idea on how much he's spending on it and how much you decide to give back. or ask him right off the bat how much he's spending on the parts and tell him you'd like to give him something in return as gratitude.
if all this sounds too complicated, just give him what you feel is right and what is within your financial possibilities.

If he doesn't want to be paid, then talk with him and tell him how you fill. Together come-up with the amount. If he still doesn't want any money don't force the issue, he may not fill right charging a friend.
