Although front load washers are all of the rage presently, I'm sticking with my front load washer. Front loaders are purportedly more energy efficient, but many only use HE (high efficiency) detergents which are more expensive and the pay off for what you pay for the machine against your energy savings is too long. Further, front loaders don't accomodate the way I do laundy. For example, I use the soak feature on my top loader and will pull clothing out to check my spot treatments after the garments soak for a while. You would have water all over the laundry room floor doing that with a front loader.

I would go with a top-load.

Front load washers usually have less volume than top-load, and are also a pain to pull wet clothes out of without them falling on the floor.

I've had a front loader for 8 years and love it. I believe it got me through 3 teenagers with laundry with my sanity. I have only purchased the "he" detergent once, just use less in your front loader. I also can use a presoak feature on mine. You can stop the machine and open the door, the tub is slanted for the water and remember, it doesn't use as much. It CAN handle way larger loads and still clean better than any other top loader I ever had. It does conserve water and energy (less loads) it does small loads nicely as well.

front loads are the only way to go. the use less water, less electricity, do a better job at cleaning the clothes, can fit more clothes in them. love my lg front load washer and dryer

front loads even the older ones save lots of energy....the newer ones use 2/3rds less water. also, the baffles on the side help to dry the cloths so less energy is needed in the dryer. in either case the cloths are about the same for cleanliness

try the top load without the center agitator. it does the same job as the front load however you wont need to concern yourself in the future about possible leaks. peace
