If the laptop came with Windows preinstalled, the Administrator pasword is probably blank. Boot the computer in Safe Mode (turn it on and repeatedly press the F8 key until you get the menu for Safe Mode). Choose the Administrator account, and leave the password empty (blank, nothing in it). Hopefully that will let you get into the PC. Once it, go to the control panel, user icon, and reset the password for the regular account.

There's a real easy way to do it, don't listen to people who say buy a program or some other of this stuff. As the computer is booting up, look towards the bottom of the screen, there will be something saying how to get into safe mode. This is a mode that will let you use pretty much anything on your computer, except background will be black and some other minor things. This is usually used when your computer has a virus or the monitor is screwed up or some other things, my computer has you push and hold Alt+F2 to enter this mode. Once you're in the windows you can change the password, (safe mode acts as a back door into your computer, allowing you to bypass the password you set, also allowing other to do the same, so why have a password, what a conundrum)!

I would just boot to a boot disk and get my data off of it, and then reinstall windows.

Then stop screwing with your password.
