I don't watch the show, but it comes on right after Desperate Housewives, and so I see a clip every week. I do know that Tom Skerritt was on at the beginning, and now he is gone. Can anyone tell me what happened to his character?

He died of a heart attack in the very first episode.

He died. On the second or third episode, a heart attack while chatting with his grand-daughter poolside he fell in the pool. He is been shown in several episodes in flashbacks. He is a great actor.
