sorted it - the dvd window will only show its content on the plasma if the output on the laptop is set SOLEY to the plasma, not the plasma and lcd of the laptop. I guess the video card cant handle both screens at the same time!

Make sure you have the most up to date drivers for your vid card.

It sounds like you've already tried taking the resolution down -but if you can see your desktop, then it sounds like the signal is getting to the TV, and there is just a problem in the DVD software - you might try a different piece of software, maybe winamp or there are probably tons of others.

That's a good question.

Assuming that the dvd's play just fine on the laptop monitor, I have a few ideas.

First, I would make sure I have the updated video drivers and DVD software installed on the machine. Go to the laptop manufacturers website and download the updates. If that solves it, great.

If not, try it with the plasma screen set as your default monitor. You should be able to do this in display settings, if not it would be under the advanced button in display settings. I had a similar problem with an Nvidia adapter a few years back.

In order to delve deeper into this issue I would need to know what DVD software you are using and what graphic adapter you have on the computer.
