what do you think we should expect. It seems the ancients decided it wa the end of civilisation as we know it.

The Maya were pretty sure something would happen, but they didn't say what except that it would force us into a new civilaztion/ way of living and alter our conciousness ( on what plane I don't know). A lot of pro's at this try to tie in the comet "wormwood" into the 2012 timeline saying it will pass by earth and start a plague or that it would actually impact us...or even that its not a comet but an alien transport! Too much, ...too soon to tell

1) The ancients did not decide it was the end of civilization. The ancient (Mayans) decided it was the end of their calendar -- the same way December 31 is the end of our calendar and December 31, 2000 (or 1999 for English and German-speaking countries) was the end of the second millennium.

2) December 21 (not 12) 2012 marks the end of the "long count" Mayan calendar. The next day, a new "long count" begins. A long count has a period of 1/5 of Earth's precession period (presently 25,765 years).

The present "long count" was fixed so that the end would coincide with the Winter Solstice when the Sun (as seen from Earth) would be closest to the direction of the Galactic centre.

3) The "end of civilization as we know it" has already begun. The Pax Americana is being eroded (often, from within) in the same manner as the Pax Romana was being eroded almost two thousand years ago. However, these things take time (centuries). One minor demonstration is the manner in which people readily believe in totally unfounded "predictions"and in various hoaxes.

4) Remember the last "end-of-calendar" prediction? Y2k. That is when all the computers blew up and we all died.

On 12-21-2012 (not 12-12) there is a galactic alignment between the sun & the milky way at dawn. It signifies the birth of a new world age (a new "sun" being born) but does NOT signify ending, Armageddon, apocalypse, nuclear war, pole shift, etc.

read this carefuly..
i really think this date will change in someway the way we live now. i doubt mankind will be extinguished by that time. but scientificly, yes, there are lot of facts that itll be important.
stuff like the solar electroimpulses, polar change, astronomical alignments (not only the planets, but this solar system with the center of the galaxy and something like that).

but what i really think... this will be a date important for the future. not for today that is the past, nor the present 2012.
example: the idea of the christian year 0. based on the birth of mr. Jesus. so year 0 wasnt that important for human race in those times. supposing that date is not ficticious.you know, now is really a big deal.

Have a look at

http://www.abhota.info/

It is a history of all the jerks who have predicted the end of the world and nothing has happened. There are hundreds of them.

People have sold all their belongings and waited on hillsides for the end so many times, it is a joke. It is obviously some kind of psychological aberration in humans, that firstly they fall under the spell of some idiot, then they give up everything to him, then they believe he knows when the end of the world will be.

Are you one of these sorry people?

No it was the end of the Mayan calendar for that era and a new era would start afterward. They were so brilliant at foretelling the future that they let themselves get wiped out. Hey, my Barnes & Noble calendar runs out in March 2008. Does that mean the world will end then ???

Someone already tried this before. It was about to happened in the new millennium, 2001. Did something really changed in your life? I got married and changed my job twice. Well, for while I don´t think this is the end of the world.

Neptune will be in Pisces then, which is its "home" sign, and something nice for Pisceans and Pisces Ascendants, but there is no indication that that will end civilization.
