I can tell when my iron gets low because, well I've always had problems with it anyway, I'm starting to feel tired, and dizzy as if I have no energy.
I don't have insurance right now but I need some iron pills that are at least 375mg. Does anyone know where I can get straight iron pills over the counter without all the other vitamins included. I don't want a multi-vitamin...just iron!

I have the same trouble. Go to the pharmacy and speak to the pharmacist. They carry high level iron behind the counter that they can give you. Mine is 375 mg as well. It is not expensive at all and it does help. They also recommend cooking food in cast iron skillets. Hope this helps.

Most over-the-counter iron supplements have this. Just go to the drug store and read the labels. You may need to remember to increase the amount of fiber you're eating as well.

You may also have a B-12 deficiency - take a B supplement, it'll be in there - because having that deficiency makes iron absorption more difficult.

I take 'Gentle Iron' which has iron, B-12, and vit C and it irritates my stomach and GI less than the regular iron pills.

Is there a free health clinic in your area that you could go to and see a doctor? It is risky to self diagnose. It could be another problem altogether. If this is not an option try a health store like GNC and ask them. You could also research for yourself on the internet other than our answers. Liver and spinach are two good iron foods.

A very good natural source of Iron is beetroot. More iron than Spinach. Just buy it fresh and cook it or get it in jars as a salad, eat at least somme 200 grammes of it a day and youre Iron will get back to normal in no time.
Probably better and cheaper than pills. :-)

Do not take vitamin pills. Just gives you expensive urine. Eat properly--------substitute fresh spinach for lettuce in all your meals. I eat leafy spinach in my breakfast sandwiches and lunch sandwiches, and burgers. Good stuff.
