I'm not sure what to make of my male therapist's body language. He is a very professional and polite person. During one point in our last meeting, which we found we had a lot in common personally, he leaned back in his chair, put his hands behind his head and had his legs spread apart. At another point earlier during our conversation he had his legs spread apart, knees bent, for quite some time.
Is he just being open and comfortable with me, or is it more?
Thanks

Officially he's very open. But maybe a little too much...he probably doesn't even realize it though.

All the bosses Ive ever had did the leaning back in the chair with the hands behind the head and the legs spread out. I always thought it was an authority thing. I don't know what you are thinking it is but I connect it with authority because of my bosses. It is actually very annoying to tell you the truth. I wouldn't read into that too much.

Personally I would poke some fun at her (make her realize it is silly) put one hand behind your head and the other on your chest and then alternate about every minute or so she will get the drift or ask you what you are doing and if she asks tell her you noticed her doing it but got better stretching results doing one at a time.

it is fairly common that a patient developes strong feelings for a therapist. sometimes sexual.
unless he was regularly readjusting his basket it probably meant nothing.

i don't know why you think you need therapy.
are you hoping it might mean something more ?

ask him. you're paying for his time. and if you don't feel comfortable or free to be honest and open with him find another therapist.

I just think that during this part of your talking, and your were talking on more of a personal basis, he felt more relaxed. He let go of his professional facade for a few minutes. I wouldnt take any more from it than that. It probably was no reflexion on you.

He was probably just getting comfortable, I would even venture to say possible even restless or bored. I seriously doubt he is trying to hit on you.
