bloating is common?
is there any good remedies for it, or is it just to be expected. i know the blood volume must increase--is that part of bloating?
(my first baby, obviously)

I had to wear looser clothing early. Not because I had gained weight but because any pressure on my tummy made me so uncomfortable.

When I was 6 months pregnant, I had a very hard time convincing ppl that I was not ready to deliver because I looked all of 9 months (my child weighed 10lbs 2oz on my due date - I don't wish that on you). If you were really small to start with, needing bigger clothes already is possible. I was gaining weight in the weeks prior to getting pregnant so I don't know if I needed bigger clothes because of pregnancy or just because I was gaining weight. Weight gain in pregnancy is always different depending on ppl. People that start out overweight will a lot of times lose weight during pregnancy.

Well, I guess the question is how much exactly have you gained so far? More than likely its just water retention and that's normal. As long as you are eating healthy I wouldn't worry about to much. Sign up at babycenter.com. Its a great site and will let you know what should be going on week by week with you and your baby.

Everyones body adapts to pregnancy differently. However 5 weeks is very early to be going up in sizes. Have you changed your eating habits? A lot of women tend to eat more even in early pregnancy due to the thought that they are eating for two. But this early in your pregnancy your baby is not really growing in the way that requires added calories. But you do need to make sure that you are getting adequate nutrition such as your needed vitamins and minerals.

It's water retention - the same way you get bloated around period time. It will last a couple of weeks, then you'll feel a little more comfortable for a few weeks, and then you'll need maternity clothes probably around 15 weeks or so.

Congratulations!

My pants started feeling uncomfortable around 8 weeks... I bought maternity pants not too far after.... I am only 12 weeks now and I can still wear my old pants... but by about noon - or as soon as I eat something.... I get EXTREMELY uncomfortable.
Sweat pants, low, bigger pants... gauchos, etc are perfect for this time before maternity pants fit you :)

Good Luck and Congrats :)
