It's an exercise in will, and there have been monks and gurus who have practiced this for quite some time. The act itself is very likely not dangerous, but extended periods certainly would be. The regions of the brain that control autonomous functions are usually pretty good at their job, and the are a bit more "hard"wired, so they aren't as plastic as most of the brain, meaning repetitive use will not "unlearn" the autonomous function. Just don't do it for too long, and you will reap the benefits of concentration and body control few have obtained.
"In 1935 a French cardiologist, Therese Brosse, took an electrocardiograph to India and studied yogis who said they could stop their heart. According to Brosse's published report, readings produced by a single EKG lead and pulse recordings indicated that the heart potentials and pulse of one of her subjects decreased almost to zero, where they stayed for several seconds (Brosse, 1946). I must say it is not bad for you as I know many Yoga practitioners are able to do it more than what you could do. But you must be properly trained for it and you must do it under care of professional of this art. It is a kind of Yoga and it in fact helps in improving life in many ways. I can say this with confidence as I am an Indian and have seen some yogis practicing it. If you practice it under proper guidance, you can go further than 30 seconds but do not practice without proper guidance as it can harm you, otherwise.

IF it were possible, of course it would be "bad" for you.
I just don't think it's possible. Not you, not Criss Angel. He's all about illusions and making you believe things that are not real.
Nothing he does is "real."
(You DO know that you really can't saw a woman in half and put her back together on stage.......right?)

Chris Angel is a Magician,a "trickster",you are NOT !.He's been trained and has conditioned his body for years to be able to "perform" and freak people out. It's not what you think your seeing etc.Doing any sort of stunt like that at home is very, very dumb ! Chris doesn't STOP his heart ,it would take intervention to re-start it again.Yes it would be bad for you, dying would make it really bad. Take care. SW RNP

Most definitely is it bad for you. You are preventing your blood from carrying oxygen to various parts of your body. Especially the brain. Without oxygen in your brain, you will suffer brain damage. In other words, you'll be at best mentally challenged, at worse, dead.

Yes I would think it is. What if it didn't start up again for some reason? You are disrupting the normal electrical impulses of your body. Scary stuff to be messing with.

Yes you are risking your health and your life. A famous illusionist learned how to do this trick and he got hooked on the feeling he got from being deprived of 02. He died of a heart attack whilst doing it. Good trick though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
