Because record investment has gone into the NHS over the last 3 years and it was NEW MONEY. Why don't front-line staff get a say in how the NHS is run rather than a bunch of egotistical "suits"

That's an excellent point you've just raised.

OMG...I have been thinking exactly the same thing today...They get an idea, form a committee and to show patient involvement they use a couple of patients who they KNOW will agree with them so then they can say they have consulted users of the service too!!! I KNOW this goes on.

Look at the state of mental health....everything has been slashed right back and wards closing...they have even raised the bar for getting into a mental health unit...so basically unless they really believe you will kill yourself or someone else you don't get in!

The frustrating thing is that they're saying 'we've spent xyz on NHS more than any other gov..blah blah bloomin' blah.....surely that just shows how STUPID they are....after all that money and it's still in a mess!!!

Mostly on fat pay rises and guaranteed pensions for the medical staff (around 75% of all money increases to date). Also, extra doctors to cope with the working time directive. Result, more doctors and more expense but NO improvement in productivity.

The best solution would be to let hospitals run themselves with money following the patient and local bargaining of Pay. The better hospitals would grow and the under performers would close.

But, the politicians are afraid of closing hospitals that are not performing and resort to throwing money at them and more Command from the Centre (Schools are in exactly the same position).

It is spent on managers who stay two years, make awful financial decisions, like cutting back on staff, (not managers of course) and then leave with a great big fat bonus to go to the next poor NHS Trust. Nurses this year will get a pay rise below inflation levels which means in effect that they will get a pay cut!

You've hit the nail squarely on it's head. The suits have taken it all. £40,000 per year to tell a hospital wing where to spend it's money is ridiculous. The matrons knew where it needed to be spent. And they kept the damn wards clean!
Bring 'em back! NOW!

Sack the suits and bring back the Matrons they knew a thing or two, at least the hospitals were clean then.

I bet if you start going up the chain as far as hospital managers go you will start to see the pay packets and the houses getting bigger and bigger and the cars more and more expensive.

That is where the money is going....in their pockets!
