Every time I read my horoscope, I have to remember that it is the same reading as for a large percent of the population that live in entirely different circumstances than I do. I mean, it's fun but what can I really do with it?

don't take any notice of the ones you read in newspapers etc they are just general readings, and cant possibly be right for everyone

you should have your personal horoscope drawn up with your exact time, date and place of birth..... very very few people are born at the SAME time and in the SAME place, this is what makes the difference

treat the others just for fun

Don't read the dailies...

horoscopes in fact, are very accurate - just keep in mind that you need your exact time, place and date of birth for it. If you have that, you can get a more accurate horoscope - but whether it will predict your future, I can't tell ya.

But here's a short explanation why they are more accurate than you would think.

There are 12 different signs and 7 - oh let's count pluto in, for now - or 8 planets, and two luminaries (the sun and the moon) involved. All those objects make up your entire personality. Each of those 10 objects can be in either of those 12 signs, which makes it a 12*10 chance, so a 120 chance you will be like someone else.
That's still too large, because roughly calculated, that would mean you would be the same as 5 million other people.
Now, that's when astronomy comes in. Certain planets move much faster than the earth does around the sun, and some planets have a very slow orbit. Chances of the exact same set-up every year are close to none.
Unless you are born in the same year, say about a week apart.

That's where another thing comes into play; the housing. It is made up of the Ascendant-Descendant axis, and divides the whole chart in 12 houses - depending on the system you use, those houses can be equal, or completely not equal. The one I find most accurate is the most common one; the Placidus system. It divides the chart up in 12, completely unequal pieces.
Now depending on which house an object is in, it will take on some typical charasteristics of that house along with the characteristics of the sign it is already in, and is also influenced by the sign the house cusp is in - it might or might not be the same sign as the object is in - and all this is outed in the field of that object. For example if that would be mercury, it would show in your mind and speech etc... typical fields for mercury.

So all this makes, that you would have to be born at exactly the same time, exactly the same date and preferrably the exact same place as someone else, to be exactly like them - so all in all, everyone still is unique.

(if someone is born in a different place, they could be born at a different time and still be very similar to yourself)

Now if people would object by saying twins who are born with a cezarian, and thus born only within a couple of minutes from each other - I HAVE actually examined this; having had such an example right under my nose - two of my best friends were born that way, and when I decided to draw their charts, I found that only ONE difference (the first born had the sun in the first house, the second born had her sun in the 12th, but both conjunct the rising) could change someone's entire personality.
The first born was social and active - basically typical to a sun in 1st - and the second born of the twins was calm, quiet and VERY VERY shy. Which, again, is very typical to a sun in 12th.

Coincidence, maybe?

I don't actually think you are necessarily supposed to follow your horoscope. But if you read about your own sun sign it usually does describe you. So in a way the people that have the same sign as you ARE sort of like you. Some people live by their horoscope and others believe it to be ridiculous. I think if you think too much about it it isn't as fun.

"Horoscopes" you find in newspapers, magazines and some online sites only hit the tip of the ice burg when it comes to Actual Astrology, infact we are all unique in astrology.

there is 7 traditional Astrological Points that can be placed in 12 signs and 12 houses. the location of the start (the cusp) of each house can also be in the 12 signs. and each 7 points can make what is called an aspect (angle) between it and another point. and depending on which Astrology you use there is also more points that can be added.

that leaves for almost an infinite ammount of possibilities.

if you want Actual Readings, try learning how to do it yourself ... or try free readings at http://www.astro.com i agree though the "Horoscopes" found in the daily venues are usualy very vague and can only be there for entertainment purpouses. however it is based (rather loosely i might add) on an Ancient Babylonian Practice.

It is just a general reading for your sun sign. For entertainment only. For a better reading use your natal chart not just the sun sign.
