Why are peripheral nerves able to regenerate but spinal nerves cannot?

Peripheral nerves can regenerate if the damage isn't too severe. This is because there are different supporting cells in the central nervous system than in the peripheral nervous system. The CNS has oligodendrocytes and the PNS has Schwann cells.
