performs better than ur *ball* mouse which tends to collect *stuff* on the ball...

Optical (good - pretty standard)
Laser Optical (better - cost more) in that it can read on almost any surface, but if you have a good surface to start with, optical is fine.
Wireless with a recharge stand, so when ur done you can put it in its stand and its always charged for u...

Logitech in my experience has the best products...

I don't know much about *optical* mice but in case it proves relevant: couple years ago, at Office Depot, they had a clearance on Logitech wireless mice. The clerk sold us three of 'em for $10 (that's not $10 each, that's the whole batch for $10). Wireless! No software to install. Just USB thingies, and batteries. These mice have lasted and lasted. So, I think, price may not always equate to quality. Our heavy-duty high-price software-involved HP wireless mouse, on another computer, sits in a cradle to recharge. It's got nothing great to offer over the cheapies.

There are a variety of styles, but I usually stick to the standard microsoft hand-neutral (some are formed for right handers - and I'm left handed) with two buttons and a wheel/third button.

You can get wireless ones now (along with wireless keyboard) for about 30-40 bucks for the package.

The mouse by itself shouldn't be more than 15-20 - and you can probably find a wireless one for that.

Wireless is nice and handy.

Microsoft and Logitech both make excellent models, wired and wireless. Most are ususally on display, try them out and see which fits your hand best.

Just be aware of the surface you will be using it on.

Glass desk tops or tables prevent them from working. A decent pad can fix this problem though.
