I was driving my olds today and when I slowed down from 58 mph to 55, it jerked back pretty hard. What would cause this?

Have the U-joints checked. If there is play, it will jolt when you put it in gear, and clunk pretty hard when you back down from hi speed. It could also be a badly worn rear end. Gears get worn over the years. Or it might be the transmission downshifting from loosing pressure. Good luck.

With this you have a number of possibilities, your CV joint may need to be replaced or, there may be a problem with the fuel distribution or fuel filter stoppage. I'm assuming that this model has a carburetor and, if it has been allowed to have water in the fuel this can happen too. Try water removed in the tank and, finally when was the last time you tuned it up?
