Put on a cute bikini and head out the door to the beach, sit in a comfortable beach chair and relax(don't forget the tanning lotion). Oh... no beach. Go to a tanning salon and get an airbrush tan.

If you're going to tan out in the sun and want a base tan then go to a tanning salon. Ask for their basic bed. The bed that has good uva and uvb rays. Only tan for a few minutes, like 4-5 min for the first 3-5 sessions. Then gradually build up your minutes until you have a good base tan. Tell the tanning person that you're trying to get a good base tan.

Well, I like to go to the tanning salon and tan in the beds until it gets warm enough to hang out by the pool. We are all going to gett skin cancer though!!

Do it slowly in the sun I think. I am lucky 10 minutes in the sun and I get a nice tan.

Tanning lotions have come a LONG way. Try one of those and see how they work for you. I like the Loreal one. It goes on really smooth with no streaking.
