I want it mainly for copying DVDs & CDs for photography & films etc, and what software should I buy? Being a novice at this I need all your help I can get, Thank You all.

most dvd drives dont cost much these days,infact you can pick up a decent lite-on dvd-rw drive for around £20(http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=259480&CatId=1346)
these sometimes come with cables and software,but if they dont all you need to do is remove your existing drive or the drive you are going to replace,then the method is to set the jumpers on your dvd-rw exactly the same way as the drive you are removing,so if its set to master configuration then set your new dvd-rw to master
then just screw in the dvd-rw and connect the 5v power lead and also the ide lead(the same lead that was connected to your previous drive
then when you switch your p.c back on windows will recognize your new dvd-rw and load the appropriate drivers
its alot simpler than you think

LG, Liteon, Pioneer 112D, NEC, Samsung etc
(Dont buy the Sony Drives)

One of the above will only cost you about £ 20

Pioneer is the best make for such things and also Sony, don't get NEC I have one it says that burns everything but it doesn't burn + dvds,

I have an LG no problems yet.2 years old and still going strong.
