Hi,
First of all, you should not rely on exchanging links alone. In web marketing, you should be able to try on one or more strategies to gain traffic you want for your site. I suggest that you should try submitting your url to as many sites as possible. Also, try to join forums, which have similar interests as your site offers. This will also give you the exposure you wanted. Try to write articles about your site (products/services) and submit them to different sites that cater to article submission. The people who get to read them will become interested with your site. Gaining traffic takes time. And you have to wait for at least six months to see the actual results.

Small Business Marketing Strategy: Target the up-and-coming search engines
While Google still rules the roost when it comes to Internet search engines, and Yahoo is firmly entrenched in second spot, a number of new start-ups are hoping to give them a run for their money. And a good small business marketing strategy would be to check them out and see how you can make them work for your site!
Some of the new up-and-comers include:
Powerset (www.powerset.com): A "natural language" search engine
Hakia (www.hakia.com): A "meaning-based" search engine
Wikia(www.wikia.com): A "community-based" search engine
ChaCha(www.chacha.com): A "social networking-based" search engine
Snap (www.snap.com): A search engine that offers visual previews
It's a smart small business marketing strategy to continue optimizing for the Google, Yahoo, and MSN search engines as they are by far and away the most popular -- but niche search engines could provide new opportunities to reach your market. Be sure to check them out!

Business is all about selling products or services. To do that somehow, you need to attract buyers, as there are other players in the market too. This logic works also for the affiliated marketing. Here you are not producing anything but selling products made of others. You can promote as much as you wish but still something extra is required to attract visitors to your website.

SEM, or Search Engine Marketing is one of the best ways to get quality and targeted traffic to your site. You will pay per click for each visitor with very strong returns (ROI) depending on your ability to keep your click costs down, and your advertising targeted (strong keyword list, and creative).
You should only focus on the following paid search engines for the highest quality traffic - Google, Yahoo!, MSN, and Ask. See these websites for more information.
