More like a dungeon on the sidelines that nobody can close because it is not under the radar. A place for people to commit their torture without legal constrictions getting in the way.
To old hip from 1948, they are NOT treated better than rapists and murderers. Why is it that a rapist will walk after about 5 years, yet it has been almost 5 years and some of these people (reporters included) don´t even know what they are being charged for and have no defense possibilities??? Why is inbreeding so common, apparantly, around these here boards here?
And catering to dietery needs??? Ha ha, you have to feed the people first. Sorry, just those triangles of naked men with red ink smeared on them and dead people with plastic bags over their faces doesn´t say democracy. That says, lucky to not be under American law. Call me when the shuttle lands. Abwoooooosh.

Don't make stupid nonsensical political points as if everyone's going to agree with your idiotic presumptions.
Guantanimo was created primarily because treating terrorism as a criminal issue, as was done in previous administrations, failed miserably and only brought us more terrorism. In an effort to allow American law to catch-up with the failed policies of the past and yet help us immediately prevent terrorist acts around the world we've created Guantanimo to handle this state of limbo. Fortunately, this function has served us extremely well and has been instrumental in preventing further attacks in the US and many places around the world.
I don't feel shameful or regret Guantanimo in the slightest. Those that are presently in Guantanimo are some of the worst terrorists and terrorism supporters in the world and I have no sympathy for them. In the end these people will receive their day in court under our new laws pertaining to terrorist activities. Gratefully, most of them will spend the rest of their days in prison which is exactly where they belong. Much better IMO than the idiotic polices of previous administrations that brought us 9-11.
P.S. I don't like President Bush that much for other reasons but as it pertains to terrorism his administration has been exemplary and deserves praise.

The US military base at Guantanamo is not a dungeon. Perhaps the inmates there should feel blessed that they are there and in US hands than in their own countries. That is where the true dungeons are.
At Guantanamo inmates are:
Free to worship and pray as they choose
Given special consideration to their diets due to religious beliefs
These are privileges that they would not even be given in most muslim countries, and God forbid you be a christian or jewish and in one of their prisons.
The US has not lost its' sense of moral decency or these prisoners/enemy combatants would be treated to the same luxuries that Americans are treated to in third world and middle eastern prisons everywhere.

It is a country club relative to the POW camps of WWII. Check your history and let's put things in perspective people. This "dungeon" even caters to the dietary and religious needs of its occupants. They probably get room service on top of that. Get real and learn about history little dove.
These "prisoners" could not be held captive by a more benevolent power. They use our own legal system against us and exploit our good nature. They are very lucky I do not run the camp. Some of these captives deserve a little dose of "24-like" action.

Guantanimo was built to hold people i'm sure you wouldn't want in your backyard. Would you want one of them getting loose in your backyard? The geneva convension, "non uniformed soldiers are not covered under it's rules." Tell them to be men and put one on. They behead and torture our men, Yet we treat them better than our own child molesters and serial killers.
Actually. "lawfully" if caught on a battlefield you ARE a prisoner of war. Not at all subject to any remote civil court. These people are not nazis, they won't be happy taking over the world. They will be happy when you and me are dead. They won't make you an excepption. olhip48

Those terrorists held in guantanamo are treated better than the prisoners held in US prisons. Alsmost all of them have gained weight because they eat better than they ever have. We have provided them with all their religous needs. So what if we need to use some aggresive (not torturous) tactics to get info out of them. I think we need to add on to guantanamo!
