OK, I have respect for people who do these jbs, but do we REALLY need someone to tell us what we already know? I know that family and a good set of friends is a great listening board, so why do we have to pay like $70 an hour just to blab away to a complete stranger who will just likely tell us what our loved ones have already said. I sooo don't get it.

You are right, but the insurance company will only pay a pro-- not family.

Some people aren't so lucky to have supportive family or friends. Sometimes their family IS the problem but never having had any other kind of family they don't realize it. Often having a stranger (one who isn't involved in their life at all) gives them an unbiased view that they need.

Not everyone has the good set of family of friends that you speak of. Some people feel the need for a neutral person to analyze them or their situation.

it's accepted by society that why. back in the day families did deal with family issues. i guess we just don't have time anymore or i guess you could just call it passing the buck
