In general war is generated as the result of a conflict of interests. In this conflict one or both parties must be under the impression that a peaceful solution is either unachievable, or not to their advantage. If it is believed that a better result can be gained by a direct and military confrontation, and if the means for this are (believed to be) present, the outbreak of war is likely.
After WWII, and with the aid of American diplomats, Europe started forming an ever closer Union. One of the ideas was that the interests of the individual countries would become linked. For if they are linked, it can never be advantages to start a war. So the peaceful solution is the only one. You would be cutting into your own flesh, so to speak. The European powers (France, Germany and Great Britain) have never fought each other since.
Why we are at war currently is not such a difficult question. We (the West) has started two major wars in recent years. One of which was prompted by an attack by a terrorist organisation that finds safe-harbour -to this day- in the country of Afghanistan; yet which has grown to be a world-wide network since
After initial successes in Afghanistan, the US focused on another conflict. This gave the necessary breathing room to the Taliban and AlQaida who have rejuvenated and are back at the initiative stronger than ever. Military success in Iraq has not been complemented with responsible behaviour during the occupation. This has allowed existing rivalries (that where kept under by the harsh methods of the former government) to erupt into a full civil war.
Both conflicts will therefore take a long time to resolve. The conflict in Afghanistan can, if the war is intensified, eventually be won. Especially as the Taliban has sown the willingness to sign armistices with local NATO forces, in exchange for uninterrupted opium cultivation, or influence. The idea is that eventually the Taliban can return as a political faction if they loose their ties to AlQaida extremists.
In Iraq the situation is different. As long as US forces remain in Iraq the war cannot be lost, but it can not be won either. The victory in Iraq has to be an Iraqi victory. And without the aid of Syria and Iran, the cause is hopeless.
War should be the last possible option. Negotiations and self-inquiry as to the causes of hate towards the West could have prevented much of the misery that we have seen in the past few years, and that we will remain seeing throughout the rest of this decade. In any case one could say that in this day and age, starting a war of aggression is a crime.
So: ‘If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime’.

Because man is still primative and is a creature of war.If there was no reason to fight at all in this world ,some-one would invent a reason to attack another person or country.Get use to it it is the nature of the beast.Until when or if every-one in the world has exactly what every-one else has, which does not seem likely, there will be fighting and war.

What you resists, persists. When you constantly focus on war, of any kind, war will ultimately follow. Now if you change the words around and instead of saying "War against terrorism" why not "fight for peace"? Then instead of terrorism, it would be peace. The law of attraction my friend. Fear,
A distinctive charactoristic about us, is our vast fears. But a wise man said, there is nothing to fear but fear itself.
But what men of power fear most, is losing power.
So we get war.
