I don't have too much experience in caring for pets, since I've only taken care of fish and my friend's guinea pigs for 2 weeks.
-not a dog since I don't have the sapce to let it run around in the
-not a cat since they shed
-not a tarantula since they arn't really the type of pet that you can pet and console your feelings with.
-not a reptile since I'm squirmish about what they eat. xpet for a iguana but they get to be quite big and smaller ones don't have that comfortimg feeling
-rodent. not a rabbit since they are harder to take care of than other rodents. so do I get a guinea pig, mouse or hamster? I'd prefer to get a guinea pig, but are the other rodents easier to take care of?

btw
-guinea pigs are NOT expensive! not unless 15$ cdn is a lot to you, because compared to fish they are, but when you think of 70$ rabbits...
-would it be better for me to get 1 or 2 guinea pigs? I know they are very social animals and probably live longer in pairs, but would I have to get a larger cage for them?
-I'd love to have a feret but I know I'm not cut out for taking care of one.
-A mouse sounds like the best option right now, how big should the cage be?

Get a g-pig.They r really funny lively creatures that depending on your climate and time of year live indoors. If you do get g pigs you must have more than one, even just two as they are social creatures and need company and companionship of their own kind.
They are very vocal and make a number of funny sounds from squealing to rumbling sounds.
They are without a doubt the best out of your selection but do have many needs, outdoor exercise in a secure enclosure and special dietary needs to provide them with vit C etc.
But remember get atleast two, he/she will get depressed and lonely. Its very unnatural to have them alone for yhe rest of their days

Guinea Pigs are great and I have owned them. Hamsters are smaller and also a great pet. Have you thought of a hermit crab. They are very easy to take care of and you can get great painted shells for them. I found them a lot easier to care for than the guinea pig if that is a factor.

A guinea pig sounds great. We have two Golden Retrievers, but I also have 5 brothers and sisters to help take care of them. Maybe a bird?

I AGREE WITH DanUK -HE KNOW'S THE SPECIAL NEEDS OF GUINEA PIGS. THAT VIT C IS CRUCIAL OR THEY'LL DIE!
Bad exp. as a child- My father bought a huge 50lb bag of rabbit food to feed my guine and it eventually died in the first year of its life. Boy was I saddned -his name was Wesley after The Princess Bride movie -he was jet Black med. haired -Loved him. They are fun and neatlike DanUK said -and 2 are a deffenet truth to there Mental well being. If this sounds like too much responsibility for you than think of a bird. Small Cockatail's are nice and can learn to speak words Like "Hello", "Pretty Bird", and well anything you can repeat to them. I def. recomend getting a book on whichever devine creature you invest you time into and read up on them. Good Luck.

depeng on how much time you spend at home id get a guinea pig but they are more expensive to look after and require a bigger cage, a hamster is a noctual creature which means it comes out at night which can be annoying if youre trying to get to sleep and its running on its wheel, so if i was you i would have to get a mouse and i would name it Micky! (how original?! lol)

I know you want a rodent but why not a cat. They are very love able, they already come litter box trained and they are independent. They also have lots of personality. Short haired cats dont' shed as much.

get two guinea pigs if that is what you want.. they like to have company. they take a while to get used to you. hamsters tend to want to be left alone and bite. mice are quite fragile so you have to let them come to you instead of trying to force them to be picked up. if you want something that will be quite cuddly i'd go with two male rats. males tend to be more cuddly than females but they need to be kept in same sex pairs.

hamsters are cool. they are easy to take care of too. just don't let them get loose if you have stairs. I had one that fell down my stairs when it was pregnant. that was a disaster. but they are fun to have. they are really cute too. I also have a cat and cats aren't as bad as you think. yes they shed but so do all animals. cats are the easiest things to take care of. all you have to do is feed and water it. when it wants give it attention. but if you dont want one get a hamster!!!!!!!

It sounds like you consider a pet as being a chore, if so, DON"T get a pet. It's unfair for the creature if it's neglected. and remember you get a pet, your in it for the long haul. Take responsability for the pet and do all to enrich it's environment. If you can't handle that please don't get a pet.
