I think you'd have to worry too much about tyranny of the majority. This is the idea that, in a democracy, if a majority agrees on something, they can make it a law whether it is fair or not. You'd have huge problems, unless you made it a loose enough federation that each region or people can make many of their own laws.

I think it would take an incredible amount of fear to unite the world despite it's people's numerous differences. I'd actually be worried if it happened. One world government may end the evil of war, but would bring much more evil of other types into the world.

Anything short of an invasion by ET and there is no way we are going to behave like one country. For one thing the differences in religion are too great, customs are vastly different, not everyone agrees on how to govern and who should govern. The US as the current dominant power would never give up any of that power, or should we, to a world government where we are just one of many. If ET invades we may band together to repel or deal with ET but government will probably wind up be by ET anyway so why worry about it?

Balance of Power. Every country goes through free times and despotic times, but the people are able to balance out oppressive rule by moving away and taking political action from abroad.

When the world becomes a dictatorship, where will freedom lovers go? We might have widely available space travel by then, but what if we don't?

In that case, anyone and everyone who had a mind of their own would be eliminated from the world and the entire human gene pool forever, just like anyone who has a mind of their own is always eliminated from a country under a despotic regime.

It won't happen & can't work.
Exhibit A: League of Nations.
Exhibit B: United Nations.

In recent years, the USSR split up, Yogoslavia split up, Canada is barely holdong together. Iraq may (& should) split up. It is contrary to human nature to have 1 world government.

Oh Lord, I hope not.

In theory, it could happen, but it is a long, long, long way off.

We can not get people in the US to agree on any one point. How are you going to get people in India to agree with people in Bolivia?

There are just way too many devisive issues. What is important to a frenchman is obviously different that what is important to a Chinaman.

It will never happen. Humans are far too beligerant, closed minded, xenophobic, and greedy to make a one-world government and one-world economy possible.

Yes, it will happen. We will be under a one world government. It won't be a good thing though. Thankfully, neither I nor my fellow Christians will be around then.
