Books have have the capacity for infinate detail. Also reading allows a person to follow a story yet interperet the scenery in their own way and piont of view.

Reading makes you smarter.

If you're speaking of fiction, it's for entertainment. Reading provides a type of mental stimulation that cannot be achieved in any other way. A movie shows you what the director wants you to see. A book allows you to see what you want to see. The author suggests a path but the final trip is yours. As such, it is personal. No one sees the characters or scenes of a book exactly the same as you do.

For example, if I say something as simple as - "He entered a blue room" - everyone reading it may imagine a slightly different shade of blue. Someone may even see mood instead of color.

Reading allows you to discover new worlds and share in creating that world. Enjoy.

I don't know. I read sometimes to escape from the world. The world is a pretty boring place at times.
Some books make you sad, while others make you laugh out loud; it is interesting to read from other points of view and to experience the thoughts and feelings.
Books are another form of entertainment and let you develop on your creative and imaginative mind.
Plus, some books are just really enjoyable!

People read for two important reasons,

1/ Enjoyment

2/ Information

I have read for both reasons and the benefits have been many.

Most of what I know came from reading. Also reading for
enjoyment calms the spirit.

It is a truism that a person who can read and doesn't is worse
off then a person who can't read.

People read for a number of reasons, here are some of my reasons:

- I enjoy using my own imagination, rather than watching movies where other people tell me how to imagine a story
- reading apparently makes you smart
- I prefer it over watching TV

I read for different reasons. Some books are informational or educational and can help to make me better at my job. Some are educational and simply help me to learn of others' thought so that I can expand my own thoughts or consider critically what others have written. Some are simply entertaining or descriptive of the 'human condition'.

I read to escape reality for a little while. Scientists are saying that readers of fiction have better social skills, but I don't know if that is true or not.
