Yeah, Meade makes decent telescopes. Certainly much better than the crappy China imports. (Brands like Tasco.)
You can probably search the web for actual product reviews. The ETX-80 is a rather small telescope but for its size, you could do a lot worse. It'll be good for looking at the moon, Jupiter, Saturn, open star clusters, and brighter nebula and galaxies. It's a good "starter" telescope though probably not one you could do real serious amatuer astronomy with. A big advantage is that it is very portable and easy to use almost anywhere. (Great to take on camping trips.)

That is one of Meade's low end telescopes. OK for a beginner, and often used by serious amateurs as a second telescope because it is small and easy to transport (A so called "grab and go" telescope). It is also computer controlled, which is nice if you don't know how to find things in the sky just using star charts and brains. 80mm is a little small though and you may be disappointed in how much you can see. A large Dobsonian will give you better views for less money, because the Dob has no computer control; not even any motors; you just point it by hand. That is the trade off, cheap and large but move and point by hand, or small and automated, with limited ability to see small and/or dim objects.

It realy depends on what you want to do observations of for the planets such as the phases of venus, rings of saturn and the belts and and satellites of jupiter then this telescope is fine, and also for double stars and bright star clusters then this is fine.
If you expect to find Nebulae other than that in the constellation of Orion, the may be you should look at larger apperture telescopes 150mm reflectors.
Seben.com produce some 150 mm catadioptic telescopes on ebay or altrnatively look at their own wes site www. seben.com they have their prices in UK pounds and the information about the telescope is in English, but they are not computer driven and are not as much, or may be for the same price a Celestron C90 90mm firstscope around £149.00 inc shipping.

Charles.

It's OK but not great. I think the $300 most people ask for it is a bit pricey. You're paying mostly for the controller and with such a small aperture, deep sky stuff is just going to be a fuzzy patch except for a few bright items.
