Takes me ages to work them out with a sheet-My 16 year old daughter can read music-but can also pick out the chords of a song just by listening to it once-can't understand how some peoples musical minds,or hearing for that matter,works.

That's playing by ear. I can do that on the keyboard, but nothing else. Just like my dad could do that on the guitar and the violin. I think it's all in our individual brains. Some people are just naturals! There are ways to learn it though, as noted in the links below.

well theres differnt ppl n the world and some live and were born form music, some weren't. but everybody can tell something from a song like whats coming nxt or when the drums kick in, its all beat. Some like your daughter have a gift to listen and they can pick out chords and stuff like tht. some of it is also exprience.
i can play the guitar so i kno which chords are played so i kno from exorience...........but i dont know if your daughter plays so ima say she has THE gift.

Some people are just blessed with that ability. Like for instance,.i'm a drummer,..i cant read music anymore, but If I hear a beat, no matter how complicating,..sometimes,...i can almost always play it back to someone. Same thing goes for all instruments,.some people just have an ear for that stuff. Don't be envious of it though,..some people would pay to not have this ability.

Part of it is being born with an ear for music, and part of it is experience hearing and playing the chords. Some people are born with perfect pitch, and can hear and identify notes and chords automatically.

Sometimes some people have the talent for doing so. Or they learn much more faster and easier than other. Some people have the heart for music and thats what they kinda "live for" Don't get frustrated or mad, you will pick up on it sooner or later!
