i have to write an essay for my scholarship application, but i don't know how long to make it. it simply says "describe your professional goals and ambitions." doing what it says, with a little elaboration, i've come up with about half a page, typed. and should this essay include an intro, body and conclusion? and what would be a good way to write them (intro and conclusion)? thanks everyone for your help!! you could be helping me get 500 or 1000 dollars to go towards my college educaion for next term!!

Don't overthink it. Just write what you feel. As long as you've made your point, it doesn't really matter how long it is. It should basically list what you want to do, why you want to do it, and how will their money help you accomplish that goal. Plain and simple, good luck!

Every good essay includes some sort of introduction and conclusion. Since you are writing about yourself, your introduction could tell something about your educational goals and why you are interested in the subject you will be studying. Are you looking to work in a field that requires a certain degree? Why do you want to go into the field you will work in when you graduate? Describe personal traits and qualities that make you a good candidate.

Your conclusion is just a short recap of what you have said. Explain how the scholarship will most benefit you, or say something about the organization offering the scholarship (you agree with their mission/ vision, are interested in working for them someday, etc.).

By the time you add these two paragraphs to what you already have, you should have a good 1-page essay. Try not to go beyond 1- 1 1/2 pages. A brief essay is best for this purpose.

Best of luck! I hope you get the scholarship.

The best thing to do is to keep it below 500 words. Try for more than 250 though. Based on the scholarship I got for my essays four years ago, I would say that they are not looking for your ability to intro-body-conclude or for your career goals-- They are really looking for your personality to shine through while describing these things. You need to stand out from the other applicants. In the one that got me my full ride, I talked about a callous on my writing finger and how I took that as a sign that writing is what I was meant to do. Most importantly: Stand out!

If it doesn't have a word requirement, I'd try to hit between 2 and 3 pages. Any longer will bore the reader, and shorter won't be able to develop ideas. You need to structure it like any other essay for sure.
