By and large it has stayed fresh throughout the past 18 years. It still draws a huge number of viewers and addresses a lot of current topics. Why drop it?

I love the simpsons, have every boxset and have seen every episode at least 10 times. I can resite them now. However, I may have to agree with you there. They are running out of show ideas, I mean how could they not be; they've already thought of it all. I've noticed the show becoming a bit weak latley. It may be time. I can't believe I'm saying it myself.

The simpsons ran its course about 5 - 10 years ago. I just watch out of habit now.

No, The Simpsons is a classic adult humor cartoon. There are so many references to it in our daily culture and it makes so many references to our daily culture in that show. Family Guy and American Dad might not last but you can't just get rid of The Simpsons

I believe it has.
The trouble with The Simpsons is that its limited to being family friendly. Other cartoons such as South Park and Family Guy are not limited by this.
They should end it with the movie and call it a day.

No! There's always stuff out there to spoof! Anyway, The Simpsons have become so entrenched in American culture I think people will die if they go off air. I would.

I thought it did a long long time ago. I have never really liked it or watched it. Maybe three times in all of those years.
