What is an emo?

I've seen the term a few times now on this site, what does it mean?

emo - short for "emotional." Emo is a broad title that covers a lot of different styles of emotionally-charged punk rock. This site is intended to introduce the reader to all the common styles, describe them musically, and give ideas about the essential records of all those styles. You will be an expert in emo, in the broad sense, after reading this website.

from what i understand, its people with emotional problems, theres also emo music, which is like people talking about cutting themselves because there life is so messed up. alot of people say i'm emo, but i guess its just cause i listen to that music. so long story short it means people that have emotional problems, and wanna end there life!

it's short for "emotional"...it's a term given to younger-aged people who tend to display their emotions on the outside more...it seems like usually sad, moody, introverted emotions
