The original Star Trek is the best.
Shatner and Nimoy were at the top of their craft and their characters were interesting. The show itself broke new ground on moral issues (The bridge crew had a black AND an Asian in major roles) especially in many stories. And since it was the only Sc-Fi intown (Lost In Space not counted), they got some of the BEST Sci-Fi writiing, ref: City On The Edge of Forever episode.
I'd say the worst was Star Trek: Enterprise. I never got to where I cared about most of the characters. I liked Phlox best. But as the ratings got worse, T'Pol wore skimpier outfits and got into more contrived racy situations etc. And overall the crew was not so energetic.

The Original was the best because it broke new ground in the sci-fi genre. Nothing like it before and many copies afterward. I remember watching it during its original run along side NASA's Apollo program trying to reach the Moon.
I really didn't like ST:Voyager. In it's original concept it may have been closer to the Original with discovering new worlds and such, but they just couldn't pull it off. I never felt that the cast came together as an ensemble like ST:TNG was able to.
I agree with the one comment that ST:TNG was too perfect. I also never liked the way that the solution to a problem at the end of an episode was usually something just "discovered" at the beginning of the episode.
ST:DS9 had the misfortune of not being able to go out and discover, but everything had to come to them. It kinda limited the stories that could be told.
For those detractors of Enterprise, did you even watch the show or where you so upset that the theme music had words that you decided that everything about the show was wrong? I know many who did do this. The show had a great cast and excellent writing. Think of their limits, "we can't use that, it hasn't been invented yet"

Contrary to most, I actually like Voyager the best...
I know that the beginning of the series started off rather hokey, what with the Original series formula in effect again (find new planet, mess it up, fix it by the end of the episode) but once they dropped Kes and took up Seven's quest for humanity (though even that could be frustrating at times, "I'm going back!" "I'm staying here..." repeat as needed) the characters began to have a depth that only DS9 has been able to rival.
As far as the worst, definitely Enterprise...I agree that there are those who turned it off after hearing the utterly horrible theme song and never looked back, but I stuck through it all and I hated what it became...It was too convienient because despite the "it hasn't been invented yet" hurdle, they invented what they needed each episode. (It's amazing that phasors, photon torpedoes, and every other major star trek gizmo was invented by one crew in the span of a few years, and mostly by Malcom)

The original is still the best, it broke new ground, it was the show that started the whole Trek cult and brought scifi shows to be more mainstream where before it was just a small group of SF readers.
Next Generation was the worse, the people were just too perfect, or thought they were there, the ego in Picard, Ryker, Troi and even Data and the Goldberg character that made you want to slap the lot!
The only redeeming feature was Q at least he took them off their high horses and gave them something to real wrestle wtih.. John DeLancey was perfect in that part .. but then that was what STNG was all about ;-)

My heart will always belong to the original, but TNG was the best of the shows. It was original, had good actors, and socially relevant storylines. Pretty much like the original tried to do. My least favorite has been Enterprise, and I'm not sure why, except that it just didn't seem to live up to the standards I expect from Star Trek.

I think that TNG was the best incarnation. It had the best acting, the best special effects and probably came the closest to Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future.
Enterprise was the worst because it was just plain boring.
Final Frontier was the worst movie,

I loved the Next Generation with Jean Luc Picard - my favorite still to this day. My dad's a hugh fan of the original - so we're split.
