My sister is pregnant, and has to go see a high risk doctor. She thinks she'll be put on bed rest. I would like to be able to help out since she has a 2 1/2 year old at home too. What exactly are the rules for bed rest?

My first pregnancy I was on bed rest at 4 months. It sucked. I didn't do anything I gained weight, sat/laid on the couch, watched tv, ate. It's basically just common sense, no lifting, no heaving cleaning, no working, mommy has to take it slowly. Mommy also has to remember that being on bed rest will make her gain weight much easier and faster, so be aware of that. Lower salt foods, salads, no caffeine, more water intake.

Good luck and God Bless.

It depends on what the doctor says, but I'm high risk too, because my first son (now 6) was born at 31 weeks (after going into preterm labor at 28 and 29 weeks). My doctor said I'm allowed from the bed to the couch, and to the bathroom. I'm allowed to take a 5 minute shower and eat my meals at the kitchen table but I am not allowed to do any heavy lifting, cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry, etc. I have to ask when I go back in March, but driving may be out too. I may have to have my hubby drive me to doctor's appointments. I'll be checked every 1 to 2 weeks after I start bedrest at 24 weeks (mid April) so my status may change depending on if I dilate or not. With my first, my mom came and helped with the cleaning and stuff while my hubby was at work, and it helped me out a ton, so it's nice of you to help out your sister. Good luck to her.

That depends. I was put on bed rest with my last two babies. One was a take it easy and rest as much as possible bed rest. The other was a get up only to pee, shower, and make your own meals. If she gets put on bed rest have the doctor write EXACTLY what he wants from her. That is what I did so I knew what she wanted. Good luck

I would just wait and see what doc has to say. I am high risk, and 33 weeks and have not been put on bed rest yet. I actually dance about 3 hours a day working part-time. I am high risk for cervical incompetence, and so far so good. She may be on it as a precaution...just wait and see what doc says. But please...if he does put you on bed-rest...stay on bedrest and get very specific directions!!!!

When I got my orders for bedrest, it was no cleaning of any kind, no cooking, nothing... Only get up to shower and go to the restroom. The doctor will give written orders of what she can and cant do. I have to have my mom here to do everything for me, because of preterm labor. My husband works out of town and I have 3 boys to take care of , so it is extremely difficult to do.

When you're ordered bed rest, you can't be out of the bed at all, other than to shower and use the bathroom.

She can't cook, clean or do any chores. She just needs to lay in bed all day.
