We don't know 100% but probably:
* climate change
* human hunting.
You have to understand that almost every animal today has some extinct ancestor. Even Horseshoe crabs that have been here for like 400 million years had something that came before them. As for elephants, some of them went further south perhaps and eventually lost their wool and got a little smaller. Evolution usually seems to occur much faster to small groups that can pass mutations more quickly to offspring. So they survived while their large woolly cousins did not.
Hely Lucilil, maybe this is a question from a child? Chill out.

Mammoths are more suited for harsh cold climates. They had the fur covered, they were bi-seasonal (warm season and the cold season) unlike quadri-seasonal today.
They suffer from hyperthermia when the temperature rises, just like penguins and seals suffer today due to global warming.
Once the earth is hotter, not hot to the humans and elephants, mammoths had to go extinct as they were a fixed design for cold climates.
If the earth cools down by 6 to 8 degrees, it is most assured that elephants would go extinct, as they are used to warmer climates. That's why no elephant ventures out into the polar regions, and no polar bear ventures into the equatorial zones.

are you trying to ask why did the mammoth become extinct and why do we have elephants?
well if thats your question then my best answer is God has a plan and i was his plan for them to become extinct and God made elphants because he wanted to. as you can tell i am not much of a scientist, i just know that God has a reason for everything.

They were similar animal, but not the same animal. They probably lived in different regions or something. That's like asking why the t-rex is extinct but we still have alligators. Different animal, different case.
