I was on depo for over a year and loved it. The weight gain is no more than with any kind of birth control, the shots don't hurt, some women may have weird periods, but I had no period for the entire time. The only problems I had were a calcium deficiancy and it took me almost a year to conceive after quitting the shot. Good luck

I was on depo for close to 6 years. I loved it because I didn't have to worry about remembering to take a pill every morning. The shot burns a little when it is first given but no it doesn't burn for days. There is slight risk of weight gain but in 6 years, I think I gained 10 pounds total (which I probably would have naturally gained anyways) I did not have periods the entire time I was on it and I was told that it was perfectly healthy. I do have a friend that had some abnormal bleeding and the doctor told her that she couldn't use depo, the doctor will be able to tell you this by your second shot--it won't last for a whole year or anything. I was also under the impression that it would take longer for me to get pregnant when I decided to go off depo but I was pregnant with my daughter within 3 months of the depo working its way out of my system. Hope this info helps you. I recommend it to anyone.

yeah. you should usually get your first shot within the first 5 days of your period. i really don't recommend it all though. the side effects arent worth it and horror stories i've read just turned me off from it completely. i've gotten very depressed from it, more acne, tired all the time, nausea, diarrhea, HEADACHES all the time...and the worst side effect: bleeding for months. it's terrible. The side effects usually dont disappear until after 3-6 months. it also puts you at a higher risk for osteoporosis and its banned in other countries even.
then again, it's different for everyone. you COULD have a positive experience with depo but its just NOT good for your body anyway.
i think you should take a regular birth control pill like the new Yaz or something equivalent. The pill doesnt usually have bad side effects like that and after a month, your body is completely regulated and you shouldnt have ANY side effects at all. its the new pill to improve your skin as well. a lot more safer then the horrible shot.

Well, I have heard many things about this. I have not used it myself because to me, the risks outweigh the benefits.

One - friends have told me that they continue to bleed for almost a year, and at weird times. They also said they get really bad cramps.

Two - If you are planning on having a baby, it can take over a year to become fertile again.

Three - Ive heard the shot stings like H*ll and burns for a few days.

My experience I would never use it again. I prefer the pill over the shot. I put on weight with the shot but not with the pill. All of us are so different though. Try it you can always change your mind if it is not right for you.

i used depo in place of pills for about a year,i liked the infrequency of it - the loss of periods, overall it was great. however - it does make you gain weight, all people are different, but the dr. told me that was the biggest side effect.i gained a little over the year, but not enough to bother me,if i had upped my exercise or diet habit,im sure it wouldve counter acted it.
