any time that happens what you need to do it unplug the pwr cable from the router then unplug the modem. Plug the modem back in wait for 3 light to go solid if you have cable and 2 lights if you have dsl then plug the wireless router back in wait for the lights to come up on the router then refresh your network list that should connect you again. I can't really explain why that would happen I can just tell you how to fix it. I used to work tech support for AT&T dsl. I also manage my own wireless network at home and my mom's lol.

Not a terribly techie answer but... Disable and re-enable the wireless connection on the laptop (or simply shut-down and restart the laptop). For what ever reason the connection is hosed and this will usually resolve things.
Pitchy has the most technically correct answer... the rest of us are taking the easy way out! LOL

Not sure about that, but I will tell you that it is VERY easy for anyone to tap into what you are up to when you use a wireless router -- I can see what my neighbor is up to and USE her network if I wanted to -- therefore, I chose not to use a router, with identity theft, and the fear of passwords being stolen. I just bought an extension chord and extended my connection from the other room through a small hole in the wall.
I would call up the company who you purchased your router from and ask them what could have caused it. Their server may have been down or maybe just too much electrical activity where it interfered with your reception... it happens when I use my cell phone near my computer, I get cut off and static and my electronic scale won't even work near my computer, it goes haywire.

I have had this problem as well.
Firstly I found that because I am using a 3rd party adapter I need to make sure that the internal window's application is set to the same settings as my wireless adapter.
The I have had difficulties when my computer has gone to sleep for a long time it doesn't want to connect. I have to reboot my lap top. I have an older machine. So that is probably my trouble.
Good luck. I am still fighting it.

(I have to ask these questions - please bear with me)
Did you restart the router? Sometimes routers will go off to a 'la-la' state until they can recover.
Did you restart the router and your laptop as well?
Here's my take on it:
In your house (or apartment) there may be other signals that may be causing this issue of interference. It may be device that has the same frequency (2.4Ghz) like a cordless phone or someone nearby who has the same model wireless router.
That's my two cents - by the way, make sure you secure your wireless router. Someone may decide to "piggyback" your signal...

It could have been anything that could have caused this problem...your router could have been hanging, someone else was trying to connect at the same time, cordless phone interference, sun spots, even the configuration of your router could cause this to happen.
If it is someone elses router, maybe they shut it off or blocked your MAC address or limited the amount of users.
Could have been a freak of nature too...who knows.

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but are you sure you have the wireless card turned on for your laptop? Usually there's a switch on the front or the side of the laptop that toggles it on or off to save battery, and sometimes it can get inadvertently switched off.

Try changing your router's channel. Most default to 6. 802.11a/b/g all work in 2.4ghz, which is also used by cordless phones to microwaves... so other wifi routers close by, cordless phones and microwaves can create a lot of noise that would interfere with your signal. Change channels until you find one that is the best for you.

God i have so much trouble with mine, there not worth it really. Maybe your neighbours have wireless too and it is picking the signal up and does not know which one to connect too, this is what keeps happening to mine, its a nightmare! If it does it again try un-plugging the wireless and pop it back in see if that helps, it usually does with mine
