if it is bright red, it is likely just a hemroid rupture, due to lifting something heavy, pregnancy, constipation, alot of things. Nothing to worry about. Take it easy and as long as it stops, your alright. If it is dark or black, then you have internal bleeding and need immediate medical attention.

Bright red blood is usually not serious, it usually means that you have opened an anal fissure or that you have hemmorhoids that are bleeding. Occult (hidden) blood that indicates bleeding in the intestinal tract usually results in black tarry stools. It's also possible that you could have passed some blood or blood clots if you were menstruating and strained to have a bowel movement but your question doesn't indicate your gender.

Generally this is a sign that an internal hemmoriod has ruptured. Typically it's nothing to worry about but if you notice this happen in GREAT VOLUME or EVERY TIME you deficate, then yes, go.
Beyond that, a simple phone call with a nurse or doctor to confirm/rule-out a few rare but possible other options is likely all that is needed.

dripping bright red means you have ruptured/injured a hemorrhoid
contact you MD today to make a appointment
Use Tucks personal wipes , increase oral fluids, increase your fiber intake, don't force a BM
that is NOT a ER issue unless blood is leaving your body at a steady rate

This has happened to me and my husband both. We asked my OB/GYN and he said it was most likely hemorrhoids, and don't worry about unless the blood was in the stool. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water (half your body weight in ounces-120lbs=60oz) and getting lots of fiber. That should take care of the problem.

It is abnormal to lose blood from the urethra and the rectum. You may have internal hemorroids or fissures in the rectum causing bleeding. You should see your MD asap and see what may be causing this. In the meantime, use some hemorroid pads when cleaning yourself. Best Wishes!

Any time blood is on the outside and not where it should be on the inside is time to worry. I'd go see the doctor.
