Well, since Cheney is the VICE President, Bush would still be President eve if Cheney's plane crashed. As during the Agnew troubles of the early 70s, the President would then be at liberty to appoint a new Vice President and if that new VP wanted to run for VP in 2008, s/he could.

Technically, Pelosi. But Bush would have appointed a new Vice President in short order, I'm sure. A similar thing happened in 1973, I believe. VP Spiro Agnew resigned due to a financial scandal. Nixon then appointed Gerald Ford. The Senate had to confirm the appointment. (Possibly the House, too - I'm a bit rusty on that point.)

Pelosi. Bush would nominate a replacement for Cheney who would have to be confirmed by the senate. Until that process was complete, if anything happened to Dubya, Pelosi would become prez.

The succession to the office of the President is:
1) Vice-President (President Pro-Temp of the Senate)
2) Speaker of the House
3) Cabinet Members by order of the oldest cabinet office to the newest cabinet office

The same person in line before it crashed. Since the President wasn't on board, I'd say he's still at the head of the line.

I think it'd be Pelosi--Speaker of the House.
But I'm sure that the President would appoint a new VP shortly after the vacancy occurred.

Should anything happen to the v.p. The president appoints the new v.p. Just as Nixon did, giving the job to Ford. I highly doubt he would turn anywhere except to Condi. She is the most advised and qualified in D.C. at this time. On policy and intel.
