For the past 10 years, I have been diagnosed as having chronic depression, chronic anxiety, and mild schizophrenia. I am now 19 and on several different strong medications. They more or less keep me tranquilized and I just stay in my room all day. I never graduated school, and I just quit my job of 2 1/2 years. Right now I feel like I am so dependent on everyone that I lost myself somewhere. My mom and my family both think that I need to get anyway and find who I am and achieve independence. Thats why we decided that I should move down to Florida with my aunt and uncle (whom I'm also very close with) and kind'of build my life back up again. Return to school, get a part-time job, and learn how to drive. I grew up in Florida and I absolutely love it. My question to you is, do you think this will help me achieve something? I'm also going to ween myself off of my medication. I believe sun-shine beats medicine anyday. I'm really scared and don't know if I will last. What do you think?

Change can be a good thing... being able to start over and put everything in the past and start out fresh. make sure you are under a doctors care when you ween off the meds. You sound stable at the moment but you may have to accept the fact that you may have to stay on some kind of med forever, who knows.

Get your GED and got to a Tech-college and get a skill... the mediacal field... your are always going to get a job where ever you go... Maybe something like a med-tech... one who dispenses meds to others in nursing home or mental facilities, etc. This might help you see others in worse shape and you'll appreciate how well you really are and helping others is a rewarding field.

Gosh... I would be excited to have a chance to relocate and start all over. It's like a rebirth... goood luck and I hope this helped!!

First of all, I am so sorry that you have all of those diseases. That can't be easy, and I wish I could fully understand what you are going through.

I think it's a great idea for you to start over in Florida, although I think you should probably not wean yourself off the meds right away. Talk with your psychiatrist first.

Once you get down there, stay active and don't feel pressured to take full semesters right away. Take time to meet new friends and enjoy the outdoors with new friends you can meet at work, school and in your neighborhood.

I really hope you do well down there! :D Sunshine is awesome!

It sounds like you are looking forward to moving back to Florida, so you should do well there. You will be able to get back to activities you enjoy. Going back to school, getting a job, learning to drive...all these should help you feel independent. Be careful about weaning off your meds-do this under doctor supervision. Ask about lowering the dose or even switching to a different med. You shouldn't have to live your life feeling emotionless. Don't worry about "achieving something" just yet. Just get to a point where you feel yourself again & the rest will follow.

A fresh start always feels good. I would suggest getting your GED instead of going back to school (a 19 year old 10th-11th grader is subject to ridicule, and that's not going to help the chronic depression). Wean yourself off of one medication at a time, or just lower the dosage. You don't want your symptoms to come back, or to get worse, but you also want to be able to live your life. If you get worse by weaning yourself off of one, up your dosage again and try weaning off a different one. Best of luck!

DO NOT go off your meds unless advised by a doctor. I have a bro in law do that and he went psycho.

You certainly can get your life back, but you have to really want it. set goals for yourself and see them thru. Don't try to do too much at once - small steps.

You can do it. I hope you do. Depression is no fun and you are TOO young to not have a life.
