I love tuna, and at my first ob appt, I asked my doc if this was okay. He told me that it was PERFECTLY fine. The ONLY reason that people say you can't eat fish is because of POSSIBLE mercury that may be in the fish. HE said you would have to eat about a GALLON of fish a day for there to be any possible problems. A lot of people take being pregnant and EVERY precaution WAY TOO seriously. So, tuna/fish a couple of times a week is not only GOOD, it's GOOD for you! Good luck and happy fishing! :-)

I have read that a pregnant woman should NOT eat tuna more than once a week. While tuna is normally a healthy food, it may contain high amounts of Mercury. For the baby's sake, please cut back on the tuna until after the birth, and if you are going to breast feed, after that is complete also. Mercury is a heavy metal, it takes a VERY long time to dissipate. It will also pass through the placenta.
Good luck with a happy and healthy baby!

well is it canned or not? not it's generally ok...just try to limit it a bit.
Canned - Because canned albacore (or white) tuna and tuna steaks are generally considered to be higher in mercury than canned light tuna, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that you eat no more than 6 ounces a week. A 2006 review by Consumer Reports, though, showed that some canned light tuna can contain levels of mercury even higher than that of white tuna. But the FDA maintains that the levels are safe if consumption of the fish is limited, and that the current recommendations should stand.

Two times a week is a safe amount of time to eat tuna. The dangers of consuming too much tuna has to do with the level of mercury in it; too much could be harmful to the baby. Tuna is very good for you and your baby.

"Fish are good sources of nutrients, so aim to include them in your diet. However, you should take care with some types. It's best to cut out raw fish and uncooked shellfish altogether. Also limit your intake of large fish - like swordfish, tilefish, kingfish, and king mackerel - to once a month. These fish can contain high levels of methyl mercury, a chemical that can harm a baby's developing nervous system."
Hope that helps! There was no mention of tuna - but you could ask your doctor just to be on the safe side.

Canned tuna is safe, but you should only eat no more than three 6-oz servings per month due to higher mercury levels in the fish.
Here is a good site if you would like more information:

Good luck!

You shouldn't eat albacore or other tuna steaks at all in pregnancy, as well as shark, mahi mahi and other large fish.
Canned tuna is safe twice a week, as well as small filet fish, such as flounder, cod and rainbow trout. You can also safely eat salmon.

Tuna contains significant levels of mercury - it's really not that healthy a food for you or your baby.
