basically, ive done a test which says no, my tummy is swollen and has been for ages (5 mths) but no matter how much i exercise my weight doesnt change. when you look at me from the back i look size 8-10 but side on my tummy is quite big and i DO look pregant, my other half just says im a bit overweight and should do more dieting but i look at symptoms of pregnancy and think yes, thats how i feel, but then on the other hand we are really careful not to get pregnant, i know that there is always a chance but we are really careful... i have sore breasts, butterflies in tummy all the time, get light headed, get snappy with people - my period last month was a week late but thats the only time i think because my tummy looks quite like im pregnant that makes me think that i am more but could it be possible? do you think im just being silly? or are these symptons of pregnancy? i find myself sometimes just sitting holding onto my tummy and even people comment that i do look like im 6 mths preg

Stop agonizing and go to the doctor. They will do a urine test, possibly a blood test (which is very accurate and sensitive to hormonal changes associtaed with pregnancy) and they will do a pelvic exam to see if there are any changes to the shape of your uterus.
Here's the thing - if the hormones are not there but you DO have a change in uterine shape, it could be indicative of another problem (fibroids, endometriosis, etc).
Go to the doctor ASAP and good luck.

No. you are not being silly because it's very easy to have these symptoms and think of pregnancy first but it could be indicative of other problems and you need to see your Doctor especially seeing as you've had this for months rather than weeks.
I had and still have a bit exactly what you describe and after a long time I told I have irritable bowel syndrome, a wheat/lactose intolerance and that some of the pain was down to an ovarian cyst.
Since the new year I have made several diet changes and feel much better but have been told that the excess weight I gained from feeling so lethargic and it being painful with having the cyst may take a little longer to go as I was told to increase my exercise levels gradually and it is, finally starting to work....fingers crossed!

I think if you are that worried you should go to your doctor and he/she can have a listen and a prod around. I would think the pregnancy test would have showed up because you say your tummy has been growing for a few months. The sore boobs and stuff could just be your hormones getting ready your next period. Whatever the outcome I wish you all the best.
I have a friend who is trim but she does have a podgy belly. It might just be you growing - you don't say how old you are!

Do you find that your swollen tummy changes during the day - i.e. is it bigger at night than in the morning? If so, it could be a food intolerance.
You really should go and see a doctor however. I know a woman who's tummy got very bloated and she tried to lose weight but it didn't work and then it turned out she had a massive cyst which had to be removed, along with her spleen because the cyst was so big.

Two of my freinds went to the doctor because they were putting on a bit of weight. One gave birth 3 weeks later, and the other after four days! Another of my friends, also put a little weight on. Her boyfriend enrolled her on weightwatchers. She gave birth on the bathroom floor alone, at five o clock in the morning without ever thinking she could be pregnant. I myself with my last child ( I have 3) did six home tests all negative before going to see my g.p. Yes I was pregnant. If you think there is a chance, then the possibility is there. Get it checked out! Did you happen to see the episodes of Casualty when Ellen thought she was pregnant? Need I say more......

In my experience, pregnancy tests are very accurate, but there is always a chance they could be wrong. If you have any doubts at all I would suggest seeing a doctor because even if you are not pregnant there could be some other reason for you symptoms. In very rare cases there are even women who have a false pregnancy where they experience weight gain, morning sickness and are convinced they can feel the baby move, even though they are not really pregnant. Regardless of what is causing your symptoms, it would put your mind at ease to find out for sure.

If the test says no and you haven't missed a period, you are not pregnant. I am afraid my tummy is like 6 months preg. too, but that's because of too many carbs (bread, pasta and sweets). Diet and exercise, but first take a blood test or go to your doctor to be sure.

I think your first port of call should be to your doctors. If you are NOT pregnant you need to get your swollen tummy sorted out. If you had a period last month I doubt it though, but you should get checked out.

I have been in exactly the same situation. Are you constantly going to the toilet? I went to the doctor who said that I had a slight Urinary Tract Infection which can only be treated with antibiotics. Since I have had the antibiotics, my stomach has now finally gone down. Hope this helps. Its just one of those things.

maybe you should discuss this with you gynecologist. you may have some type of hormonal imbalance, or it could be a tubal pregnancy. i would defiantly make a doctors appointment to make sure every thing is OK, because if you are pregnant it's not a normal pregnancy & the sooner you see a doctor the sooner you'll get peace of mind.
