It's not a good idea. High school sports activities are geared toward teaching good character and competition along with team work. A gang member could possibly resort to intimidation over a team or opposing team member with threats of violence or retaliation. If that member didn't then one of his cohorts might, wanting to see his gang member win or be on top. Not to mention that it would open the door for such things as illegal betting and rigging games. In general, it could get quite ugly and hence ruin the spirit of competition and good sportsmanship.

yes. It might be their only chance for a better life away from the gang. They learn social skills, team work, and may even decide to leave the gang. Having something to look forward to everyday is what everyone needs. Gang members join the gang to feel like they're part of a group that truly treasures/admires them...and being allowed to play sports and be part of a positive group would be so much more beneficial.

In our school they can't. A sports man is suppose to set good examples. No gangs, drinking, drugs or fowl language. They have to maintain a passing grade. There is a law in the sports that a member of a team is not suppose to hang on the streets. There is a curfew for them. If one can join, the whole gang could join and schools don't need that.

absolutely not - are they going to stab or shoot someone when they block them on the field? That's ridiculous. They should not be allowed to attend school.
