Because of the very reason you can't comprehend why someone would. Really, it is that simple. The comfort and happiness you take in the fact that the sex you are is right for you and the social interactions that take place don't feel wrong or incorrect is the very reason that people have sex changes.

I realize that this sort of thing is very hard to comprehend for people who are comfortable with their gender. However, not being comfortable with your gender and body is hell. Every day you hurt, every time you talk it hurts, hearing a voice that doesn't match you. Your name doesn't match you, answering the phone and hearing sir hurts. Looking in the mirror and realizing that every day you are more masculine and that nothing you can do will stop it and that your body is beyond your control was the scariest thing that ever happened to me. Transsexuals usually go deep into depression or denial, and become so unhappy that they literally have to try making some steps to be comfortable in their body, like you have everyday, or do suicide to escape from the constant pain.

To answer your question: to be normal. I knew from the age of 10 that I was not what I should have been. I was a girl trapped in a man's body and I was miserable. The way I felt only grew and grew until I could not take it anymore. I had to seek professional help or commit suicide, those were the only options left to me. I got the help I needed and the solution was to become a woman. I have never felt more complete and happy with myself since I have started the transition. I can't wait until I have completed and I am a woman. Then I will be content. That is why I transitioned.

I was scared to live in America since I found out that people did sex changes. I've always told myself that if I got involved with anyone there my first question would be "Are you male born and has no intention of becoming a female". It's scary really.

Some of us are women in mind and spirit who were unfortunately born into the wrong body. I for one feel that, even though it is considered to be extreme, it is the only option left to make us feel "complete"

because we aren't comfortble with society's gender roles for the sex we were assigned, because we feel we relate to the other gender role and other sex. because we feel uncomfortable engaging in sexual activities and feel we should have been born the other sex
