The location of burrow is in a grass and stone bank in North Cornwall, UK. The material being used changes overnight which means the entrance is being used. If neither stoat nor weasel is doing this any suggestions as to what it might be?

The entrance to the burrow is about 1.5" in diameter and is in what we call a Cornish Hedge - a stone wall & mud wall that then grows shrub and grass. Overnight last night, Monday 26th, the animal used leaves and mud to re-seal the entrance after its nightly doings. There are appear to be other entrances (same burrow or others) within a yard or two of the same hedge but usually under roots of trees or shrubs.

1. Protection: The smell of the of the animal inside is covered off by the bark and leaves. The next day they need to change, as the bark would decay and catch up the animal's sweat smell.

2. Provide camouflage to the entrance to avoide naked eye visibility.

This is the only related information I could find on the Internet:

All chipmunks have five dark stripes on their bodies, usually live in burrows in the earth or in rock piles, and are extremely alert and energetic.

The entrance hole is then packed solid, so it can no longer be used, and covered with leaves. The exit hole now becomes the entrance hole and is usually hidden by a leaf. As the hole is usually no larger than 1 ½", it is very difficult to see, especially when covered with a leaf or two.

how big is the burrow???...weasels and stoats tend live in holes in trees or stone walls...it would be unusual for them to live in a burrow in the ground....
