It depends on your ob-gyn, but most will not even consider tying tubes on anyone under age 40 who has no children. If you already have one child, they will probably consider it unless you are very young. If you think you don't ever want kids but are under 40 (I felt that way until I was 37), try for a long term, low maintenance birth control like the IUD or Norplant implants. If a doctor agrees to tie your tubes and you have no kids and are under 40, I would not personally trust that physician.

The thing is you might change your mind (even though you don't think you might) and it is much harder to reverse a tubal ligation than to just stop using birth control.

Good luck.

It depends on so many things! This is abdominal surgery with permanent results - not to be taken lightly.

If you already have children, but you are young (under 30), a Dr. may be hesitant to do the procedure in case you would want another baby in a few years. It doesn't seem right, but the Dr. is looking out for his/her own future liability, becasue this procedure is considered permanent. Yes, reversals can be done, but the percentage of successful reversals is low.

A good alternative to a tubal is an IUD, which is an outpatient procedure and lasts 5 years, but can be removed at any time to restore your natural fertility.
I hope you will research your options very thoroughly before making your final decision.

Hello. The federal government will not fund tubal sterilizations until a person is 21 years old. Other than that, the individual states/hospitals decide. But, as far as I know, most states/hospitals will not do a Tubal until 21 years of age. My aunt was 17/18 when she had her child, and they refused a tubal until she was 21. Also, if you are single or childless, it may be very difficult to get a tubal sterilization done, as it is considered a permanent procedure. Hope this helps. I have also posted a link with the answer to your question.

It has more to do with your doctor and reason than your age. I don't think it is an acceptable form of birth control and you will most likely have a difficult time finding a doctor to tie your tubes for this purpose.

However, If you are asking because you already have children and don't want anymore, you need to talk to your GYN.

There really isn't a set age that you should get it done. Doctors usually suggest that you don't get it done until you are at least 35 years old but you can have it done whenever YOU feel it is best

you do not have to be a certain age, but now these days most doctors won't do it until you are mature enough to make a decision that you really want this done or until you at least have two kids.

A few doctors here won't do it unless you are 25 or have 3 kids.
