I think you're talking about a "newsboy cap", also called "poor boys cap", in reference to what very poor boys used to wear back in the day, and run around selling newspapers or shining shoes.
It sounds very cute for your child :)
They tend to be puffy (sort of) on top, and not as fitted, with a slight brim.
